  • What is a CSA?
For over 25 years, Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) has become a popular way for consumers to buy local, seasonal food directly from a farmer. Many flower growers have expanded this concept to their farms, as well. In our case, our farm offers a certain number of "shares" to the public consisting of one bouquet of fresh flowers per week. Interested consumers purchase a share (aka a "membership" or a "subscription") and in return receive their fresh flowers for a pre-determined number of weeks during the flower growing season. This arrangement creates several rewards for both the farmer and the consumer. In brief: Advantages for farmers: Get to spend time marketing their crop early in the year, before their long days in the field begin Receive payment early in the season, which helps with the farm's cash flow Have an opportunity to get to know the people who enjoy the flowers they grow Advantages for consumers: Enjoy ultra-fresh, local flowers before the general public has an opportunity to purchase them Usually get to visit the farm at least once a season Develop a relationship with the farmer who grows their flowers and learn more about how local flowers are grown
